The red is natural, too.
When I stripped the bark off of the log, I
noticed these black patches on the wood. When I
carved the wood under them, it was blood red.
The log had not been laying in dye, (or any
thing more sinister.) The bark that was over the
red patches was not discolored or unusual in any
way.
The log had seasoned for several years and
that seems to intensify wood color, but I've never
seen any other like this.
